Get Involved

Whether you shelve books or supervise recess; whether you work one hour a week or one hour a month; whether you make phone calls, copies, or cookies – your work is essential to the strength of the Pulaski community and sets a great example for all of our children.

A list of volunteer opportunities with the responsibilities and time commitment is outlined below and posted on the Pulaski Together bulletin board in the Main Building. To sign-up to volunteer, simply click on the respective link below.

Wednesday Work

  • Help our teachers with “busy” work to allow  more time spent with our children. Stapling, making copies, cutting and pasting, sorting, laminating, etc
  • Join us once a month or every week-stay for 15 minutes or an hour. 
  • 8:45-10:00 AM
  • Every Wednesday while school is in session
  • Modular building Room 006
  • This activity does not require a CPS Volunteer Registration.  Be sure to sign in at the security desk when you enter the building. Email Ms. Brosnan at bbrosnan@cps.edu with questions.

Morning Parent Patrol “KISS N GO”

  • Supervise children during morning drop-off
  • You will be at one of these locations around the school: Kiss and Go lanes, playgrounds, and building entrances
  • 8:20 AM – 8:50 AM
  • 30 minutes
  • Once a week minimum
  • This activity requires a CPS Volunteer Registration. Please contact Bob, bob@friendsofpulaski.org, once you’ve completed your application.

Recess Assistance

  • Help the recess supervisors keep an eye on kids at recess
  • You will be at one of these locations: blacktop, the middle playground, or the Leavitt-side playground
  • Pulaski’s recess block runs from 11:00 – 1:00; you can work anytime during that span of time
  • 20 minutes to 2 hours, depending on how many grade levels you wish to assist
  • Once a week minimum

Lunchroom Assistance

  • Assist Kindergarten students in the lunchroom (mainly opening milk cartons and lunch containers)
  • At the Annex cafeteria
  • 12:00 – 12:20
  • 20 minutes
  • Once a week minimum

Translators

  • Assist with translating presentations
  • Main Building, Modular Building or where the presentation has been set

Teacher Treats

  • Every Friday morning a volunteer or volunteers bring a special treat for teachers.
  • Treats can be homemade or store bought.
  • Bring two sets of treats: one for the main building (40-50 people), one for the modular building (15-20 people)
  • Disposable plates/trays welcome, or come back later in the day to retrieve.
  • Treats are served in the Pulaski Teachers’ Lounges. The office in each building can direct you.
  • This activity does not require a CPS Volunteer Registration

Library Assistance

  • Re-shelve returned library books
  • In the library at school
  • During the school day; pending Librarian Ms. Magness’ approval
  • 45 minutes to one hour
  • Once a week or once a month minimum

Special Events

  • Help set-up and answer questions during events such as Family Nights, Book Fair, Fun Run and Field Day
  • Locations throughout school
  • Volunteer is on an as-needed basis throughout the school year
  • Shifts vary between one and one and a half hours
