Get Involved
Interested in volunteering? Please contact the main office at 773-534-4390 if you would like to volunteer, or just help on the day of an event. There are a number of ways to get involved. Below is a description of just a few.:
Note: CPS requires school volunteers to complete a background check. Click here for the CPS Volunteer Registration Packet. For Spanish click here. You can return completed packets to the Parent Volunteer Program inboxes outside of the Main and Annex Offices. Volunteer registration packets will be treated with the utmost care and be kept entirely confidential.
Parent Group Chairs
- Recruit parent volunteers to attend Parent Group meetings
- Lead monthly Parent Group meetings
- Serve as liaisons between Faculty Reps and Committee Chairs
- Distribute monthly updates to Grade Parents for grade-level newsletters (as well as when needs arise)
Grade Parents
- Hold introductory meeting with grade-level teachers
- Build database of grade-level contact information
- Maintain monthly contact with grade-level teachers regarding classroom needs, etc.
- Serve as liaisons between other committees and grade-level parents; assist Committee Chairs in securing volunteers
- Send monthly grade-level newsletter
- Attend monthly Parent Group meetings and report any relevant grade-level news
Active Committees
- Box Tops
- Recruit members for committee (in conjunction with Grade Parents)
- Create and maintain Box Top collection sites
- Create and distribute Box Top “promo materials” (in conjunction with Grade Parents)
- Oversee collection and mailing of Box Tops; oversee all organizational paperwork
- Attend monthly Parent Group meetings and give committee report
- Parent Programming
- Recruit members for committee (in conjunction with Grade Parents)
- Create and distribute survey to determine programming needs and wants of parent population
- Develop programming based on survey (in conjunction with Columbia?)
- Organize, publicize, and provide logistical support to events
- Attend monthly Parent Group meetings and give committee report
- Teacher Appreciation
- Recruit members for committee (in conjunction with Grade Parents)
- Oversee organization and execution of monthly teacher appreciation activities
- Attend monthly Parent Group meetings and give committee report
- Office Assistance
- Recruit office volunteers (in conjunction with Grade Parents)
- Work with office staff to determine needs, time constraints, etc.
- Develop schedule for volunteers
- Maintain contact with office staff and volunteers to ensure schedule and activities are appropriate
- Attend monthly Parent Group meetings and give committee report
- Library (Shelving) Assistance
- Recruit library volunteers (in conjunction with Grade Parents)
- Work with Librarian to develop training program
- Develop schedule for volunteers
- Maintain contact with Librarian and volunteers to ensure that schedule is appropriate
- Attend monthly Parent Group meetings and give committee report
- Book Fair – assist Librarian as necessary (?)
- Kiss and Go
- The purpose of this program is to safely get students out of cars and onto school grounds without drivers having to stop or double park – the things that cause traffic backup.
- We needs at least four parents each day from 8:30 – 9:15
